The delegation exchanged with trainers and trainees undertaking a course in native chicken raising and learned how community-based skills training is helping improve livelihoods and create income-generating opportunities for young people in rural areas. In the afternoon, the mission visited The Academy Vang Vieng Training Hotel and Restaurant, where discussions on tourism/hospitality vocational skills development were held with provincial leaders, educators and private enterprises. The visit also marked the handover of new STAF Programme-supported hospitality training and ancillary facilities, including a training kitchen and a training café, as well as student and teacher accommodations. The second day highlighted how the STAF Programme is expanding opportunities, strengthening local vocational training provision, and investing in a more skilled workforce for Lao PDR. 📢 Stay tuned for updates from the next stops on our mission! The delegation began the day at the Hands of Hope Vocational Training Centre for the Deaf, where participants had an opportunity to exchange with students and trainers, and learn about the STAF Programme’s support – via the MoES Department of Non-Formal Education (DNFE) and the Regional Non-Formal Education Development Centre – for the provision of Basic Vocational Training (BVT) programme for young adults with hearing impairments. The delegation then continued to Pakpasak Technical College, where they were briefed on STAF Programme initiatives for the promotion of inclusive vocational skills development, revenue generation for sustainable financing of vocational training, and the integration of technology for enhanced vocational teaching and learning. At the training restaurant in the college’s School of Tourism and Hospitality, delegates also enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared and served by students. The day concluded at the National University of Laos (NUoL), where the delegation observed teacher training on animal health and surgery, and discussed with teachers the upcoming roll-out of new Certificate Level 3 and Diploma Level 4 veterinary-related courses at vocational colleges in Khammouane, Bolikhamxay and Xieng Khuang Provinces. ✅ The field visit continues to Vientiane Province the next day, with more opportunities to see STAF Programme support for vocational skills development in action.
