The Law School is a biannual event bringing together legal professionals (professors and practitioners) from both Luxembourg and Laos. This summer edition, which took place in Vientiane and in Vang Vieng, brought together representatives affiliated with Uni.lu (including project lead Prof. Dr. Stefan Braum), FLP, the Lao Bar Association, the Lao Ministry of Justice, and the National Academy of Politics and Public Administration. The theme of this 9th Summer Law School was “Rule of Law and Transparency of Legal Proceedings in the Global South using the Example of the People's Democratic Republic of Laos”, and discussions explored key aspects of legal transparency, procedural fairness, and Laos’s integration into and adaptation of international standards. It was a particularly enriching week of exchange of expertise and viewpoints on legal approaches, which nurtured dynamic exchanges on Lao legal standards, and how international legal standards are interpreted, integrated, and applied within the Lao legal framework. The Inter-University Cooperation Project is jointly implemented by the University of Luxembourg and LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency under its ‘Rule of Law, Access to Justice and Good Governance’ (ROLAG) programme, financed by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The Project aims to enrich academic programmes and individual capacities in the field of law, thereby contributing to the strengthening of the rule of law and justice institutions in the Lao PDR. 🌏 🌱 Today is World Environment Day. Focus on CARe Hue, a new climate change adaptation and resilience project implemented by LuxDev in the Vietnamese province of Thua Thien Hue 🇻🇳. 🌪️ Increasingly exposed to extreme climatic events, the Thua Thien Hue province and its agriculture-dependent population are confronted by food insecurity and economic losses. To address these challenges, the project: ✅ enhances the province’s early warning system to better prepare for and respond to climate hazards ✅ integrates climate adaptation considerations into local development plans ✅ sustainably manages agricultural and forested land ✅ supports climate-resilient agricultural practices, from development to scaling. Running from 2025 to 2029, CARe Hue is our first project supported by the Green Climate Fund 🇺🇳 (USD 8,650,000) and supplemented by co-financing from the Luxembourg Ministère de l'Environnement, du Climat et de la Biodiversité 🇱🇺 (USD 900,000), and the Government of Vietnam 🇻🇳 (USD 450,000). These funds and efforts will benefit to approximately 700,000 people, with improved resilience for 115,900 hectares of agricultural and forested land.
