Georges Ternes, Director for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Action visited the Lao PDR for the first time. This visit highlighted the diverse and impactful partnership between Luxembourg and Lao PDR, encompassing healthcare, legal aid, vocational training and local development. 🏥⚖️🍽️🎓🌱 At the start of his trip, the Delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Planning and Investment. At the Mekong River Commission, the importance of multilateralism for sustainable water management was highlighted. With the Minister of Health, Mr Ternes then visited the Institut Pasteur du Laos and the Lao-Luxembourg cardiology center at Mahosot hospital. The next day, the delegation travelled to Vientiane Province. With the Governor, Mr. Ternes reviewed the longstanding Lao-Luxembourg cooperation with the province, which was established over 25 years ago, illustrated by the Maria Theresa Hospital, a beacon of provincial healthcare in Lao PDR. The Legal Aid Office in Hin Herb provides crucial free legal counseling to community members, ensuring access to justice for all. The mission culminated in a visit to the Academy, a training restaurant and hotel. The highlight of the evening was a delightful dinner prepared and served by the talented tourism and hospitality students.
